



Phillis Eliza Ilaria (nee Sibilia) went home to be with the Lord and her heavenly family on Thursday, May 14, 2026. Phillis was born on July 16, 1932. She was raised in Belleville, NJ, and resided in Cranford and Lakewood, NJ. Through her 93 years, she touched many lives with her unwavering faith, wise advice, strong wit, and unconditional love.
Growing up during the Great Depression, Phillis knew the value of family, faith, and education. A serious student, Phillis earned a BA in Elementary Education from Kean University, graduating Magna Cum Laude. At the same time, a mother who taught full-time went on to earn her MA from Montclair University. She served in Catholic education as a reading specialist and director of religion education for over 40 years.
Phillis was dedicated to the Catholic Church her entire life. She taught remedial reading at St. John the Apostle Elementary in Clark, NJ. She volunteered for English as a Second Language (ESL) programs through St. Matthew Church in Houston, TX, and at Visitation Church in Brick, NJ, and as an Associate of the Sisters of St. Lucy Filippini. Her top priority was being faithful to God and family.
